Watering
Bamboo palms should be watered when the top of the soil is moderately dry to the touch. As a guideline, water once a week, allowing about half a gallon of water for 1 pot of bamboo palm. Be sure to water the soil directly instead of misting the leaves. Too much humidity can cause disease in bamboo palms. During the summer, water more frequently. On hotter days, water more often, whilst in cooler days, reduce the amount of water.
Light
These plants prefer medium to high light, anywhere from 150 to 300 lux, so that would be about 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Since they are native to the tropics, they can handle more direct sunlight during the warmer months of the year. When grown indoors, try to place your bamboo palm in an east or west-facing window to receive the most amount of light possible.

Pruning
Bamboo palm should be pruned once every year. Pruning should be done during the late spring or early summer season. Prune only the dead fronds, as this will help encourage healthier growth of new foliage. The amount of pruning should only be done when necessary, as over-pruning can stunt the growth of the plant. A general rule of thumb is to remove no more than a third of the existing fronds. This is because removing too many fronds can shock the plant and lead to browning of leaves.
