Watering
This beautiful plant species should be watered on a regular basis, ideally once or twice a week. However, soil conditions should also be taken into consideration as overly wet soil can cause issues such as root rot. Make sure the soil drains well and that it is not overly wet. During the hot summer months, water more frequently to keep the soil consistently moist, but not soggy. In the winter months, water every other week. Generally, each plant should receive approximately 1 to 2 inches of water, ensuring that the soil is kept consistently moist.
Light
Large yellow foxglove (Digitalis grandiflora) should receive 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. This species tends to prefer morning sun and filtered afternoon light to help avoid scorching. It should be planted in a location where it receives bright but indirect sunlight during the hotter parts of the day. Morning or late afternoon sun is recommended for optimum health of the species. This plant can tolerate some shade, so if shade is available it should be taken advantage of.

Pruning
In general, Large Yellow Foxglove (Digitalis grandiflora) plants should be pruned in late winter to early spring, when the plant is just starting out of its dormancy. There are 2 types of pruning methods that can be done to Large Yellow Foxglove plants – 1 being deadheading and the other a moderate annual pruning. Deadheading involves pinching off the flowers as soon as they have faded, which will encourage the plant to produce more blooms. Moderate annual pruning is recommended to encourage the plant to become bushier and not become too large, both in size and in the production of flowers. Pruning should not be done more than once a year, so choose the right timing for the job. To prune the Large Yellow Foxglove, remove any dead, damaged, or diseased branches as well as any shoots that are crossing over each other or are overgrown. Cutting back up to a third of the plant’s growing and flowering growth is acceptable as long as the plant is not over-pruned.
